Bears Blaze to 2-0 Start

A season with lofty expectations got underway two weeks ago for the English Valleys girls’ basketball team.

            The Bears hosted Belle Plaine on Nov. 21 and came away with a narrow 52-44 win.

            Both teams began the season on fire from the field.

            Five-straight points by EV’s Taylor Harriman midway through the first period gave the Bears a 12-7 lead.

            The Plainesmen continued to counter, however, by consistently breaking EV’s full-court press and finishing layups. Still, the Bears managed to gain a 19-17 lead after the first quarter.
