Bears win wild one in Marengo, move to 3-0

MARENGO – Friday night’s matchup between English Valleys and Iowa Valley had all the makings of a classic high school football game. Both crowds were into it; both teams made spectacular plays; and both teams deserved to win. But it was ultimately Mike Gerard’s Bears who prevailed, 33-32.

So the players lined up again, only 10 yards further away from the end zone. Smith did his familiar scrambling act once again. Only this time, his pass fell incomplete. The Bears had won.
