Belle Plaine’s Straight to be 2017-18 Tri-County’s Superintendent

With the resignation of Dennis Phelps as Superintendent of Tri-County CSD following a shared agreement with Keota CSD, the Board of Education during a meeting on Monday, May 15 approved a 28E sharing agreement with Belle Plaine for Superintendent Chad Straight to come to Tri-County

The search for a new superintendent was conducted by Board President Matthew Steinke and Board Member Chad McKain, who narrowed down candidates to Straight and the superintendent of Harmony Elementary School in Bonaparte. Ultimately, the decision for a recommendation to the Board came down to distance and established relations with their fellow South Iowa Cedar League (SICL) school.

“They were both very good candidates and it wasn’t an easy choice, but Belle Plaine is 40 minutes away while Harmony is an hour and a half away,” Steinke said. “This could possibly be longer term sharing and the situation fit us.”
