Blue Oval Finale for Area Tracksters

 

5/22 – 5/24 Iowa State Track & Field Championships

 

Every track & field athlete across the state of Iowa wants to end its prep career on the blue oval inside Drake Stadium at the State Meet. For one group of senior athletes in Keokuk County, that blue oval served as the final destination for their high school careers and a memory that they’ll carry forever.

“It’s a great feeling to end my senior season here,” said Sigourney’s Kevin Weber. “My senior season went fast, but it couldn’t have ended any better making it to State.”

Weber, who qualified for State in the 110-meter high hurdles by winning Districts at BGM, placed ninth at State with a time of 15.96 seconds and was just .17 seconds away from making the finals.

“I didn’t feel like I had the best start,” Weber said.  “I’m usually first out of the blocks through the first few hurdles, but I don’t feel like I got a good enough start.

“It was nerve racking; different atmosphere, different track,” Weber added. “It was a great feeling being out there but it was a lot to take in all at once.”
