Board of Supervisors to buy Keokuk County Recycling Center Site

The Board of Supervisors has approved an offer for the purchase of the Keokuk County Recycling Center Site for $115,000 from Waste Management to own the contract for services in the county during their regular meeting on Monday, April 17.

Over the last 16 years, the county has paid for rent for the site, which includes the building an land around the building. The decision to purchase the site came when the Board decided that they didn’t have enough control over cost of bids and rent while reviewing a contract renewal. With the purchase, the Board hopes to have flexibility in finding another service other than Waste Management for the county’s recycling. No changes are expected for terms and services for county residents.

“We felt that it would be a better position for the county to own the building,” Chairman Mike Hadley said.
