Clean Up Days numbers down from previous years

In an update to the Sigourney City Council on Wednesday, May 3, City Maintenance Manager Don Northup reported a decline in numbers across the board for the Annual Clean Up Days in Sigourney from April 17 through April 21.

Over 50 residents in Sigourney took advantage of the program during the week, some with multiple stops for different days. Metal Day resulted in 19 stops and 300 pounds of metal, Wood Day with 17 stops and three truckloads of wood, E-Goods Day with 4 truckloads of electronics, and White Good Days had 16 stops with items to pick up. Northup made a point that 38 calls were originally made for White Goods days, but items were “ransacked” from 22 of the houses by the next morning for pickup.

“The bottom line is we went to 52 houses and got items, and last year we went to 76 houses,” Northup said. “It’s down from last year and with mixed results.”
