Cold & Rain Doesn’t Halter Panthers

Wet weather and chilly temperatures early last week caused a number of track and field meets in the area to get cancelled, but not the ones that the Panthers were competing at.

Conditions were subpar, to say the least, last Tuesday in Bloomfield for Davis County’s Mustang Relays, yet both the Pekin boys’ and girls’ squads tore up the competition. The Pekin girls took first place in the team standings by scoring 208 points. First-place individual finishes for the Panthers included Taylor Lock in the 3,000 (11:57), Shae Dahlstrom in the 1,500 (5:39) and Gwynne Wright in the 800 (2:23). Pekin also brought home a number of wins in sprint events including Mallory Reed in the 100-meter hurdles (16.66 seconds) and Kaylee Linder in the 200-meter dash (28.10 seconds).
