Crunch Time Approaching for Pekin XC

Pekin cross-country coach Davis Eidahl has always had a certain way of doing things. Last week his Panthers compete twice in three days, just one week prior to the SEISC Meet and three weeks before the State Qualifying Meet.

            “Running two meets in three days is tough,” said Eidahl. “We have always done it this way. We run on the same course both days, so it’s nice to see how we compare.”

            That course is Ashton Cross-County Course in Iowa City; the same one use by the University of Iowa’s team.

            First, the Panthers went to Iowa City on Tuesday to compete in the Iowa City West Invitational against a number of 3A and 4A schools. Despite the size differential between Pekin and schools like West High, Johnston and CR Kennedy, the Panthers were right in the thick of things.
