EV boys prime for SICL meet with Keota Invitational

The English Valleys boys’ golf team has seen ups and downs all season and continued that on April 30 at Lagos Acres in Keota. They finished in fifth place, putting up a team score of 383.

Cole Stephenson had one of the best scores on the day, in addition to leading his team. He scored a 41 in the front nine and had a 49 on the back nine to shoot a 90, which was the 10th best from the field. Daniel Tapken and Tanner Mihal tied with scores of 95 to help with the team score, while Charlie Axmear shot a 51 to round out the Bears’ four.

Mihal and Axmear improved one stroke apiece on their back nine scores from their first nine. Sam Kingland, one of the teams’ more veteran golfers, had a score of 121 and Sage Coffman finished up with 123.

The Bears headed to the Oakland Acres Golf Club near Grinnell on May 7 to compete in the SICL conference meet.
