EV Girls Put Up Fight of Their Lives

For the second straight season the English Valleys girls’ varsity basketball team matched up with a highly ranked opponent in the Regional finals, with a berth at State on the line. Last season it was top-10 ranked Lynnville-Sully, this season it was 1st-ranked Burlington Notre Dame, a private Catholic school and reigning State champion.

After handling its business against WACO, 48-36, in the Regional semifinals, English Valleys made the trip to Pleasantville High School to try its shot at the Nikes, who average 75 points per game.

The Bears played with poise throughout and gave Burlington Notre Dame one of its hardest challenges of the season, yet 13 made 3-pointers by the Nikes were enough to give them the 73-57 win and end EV’s season one game short of State, again.

English Valleys began the game a bit ragged and allowed 25 first-quarter points to the Nikes, who took a 25-13 lead into the second quarter.
