EV Unable to Hang With Dons

Sometimes one player can make all the difference.

Don Bosco senior quarterback Mason Svoboda ran for an incredible 367 yards and eight touchdowns in the Dons’ 86-20 win at English Valleys on Friday. Svoboda’s 21 rushing touchdowns this season is tied for the most of any player in the state.

The loss dropped EV’s record to 3-2 on the season, while the second-ranked Dons improved to 5-0 before this week’s matchup with fifth-ranked HLV.

Despite the significant margin of defeat, English Valleys played very well early on, on Friday.

The Bears opened up the scoring first to take a 6-0 lead and forced Don Bosco to punt on the Dons’ first possession. However, EV’s early momentum would not last. Quarterback Andrew Kerkove was picked off by Don Bosco’s Spencer Bruess, who returned it 16 yards for a touchdown, tying the game at six. Don Bosco then converted the two-point conversion to take an 8-6 lead, which it eventually built to 38-12 at halftime.
