Grinnell College hosts indoor SICL Meet to kick off area boys and girls track season

GRINNELL- Track season is upon us, and our local area high school student athletes are rearing to go as the season kicked off on Monday, March 20 at Grinnell College. Grinnell hosted the 2017 South Iowa Cedar League Indoor Meet. All of the area SICL teams participated in the event that has gained momentum as the official beginning to the track season. The area teams results are as follows:

 

                                                Sigourney Boys & Girls

            Ladies first of course, Autum Barthelman had a great day for the Sigourney girls track squad, as she took third in her heat and overall in the 200M dash with a time of 28.52. Barthelman also had record runs in the 60M dash and the 60M hurdles. Here is coach Andy Harter regarding his overall view of the meet for Sigourney, “It was good to see the girls get a chance to go out and compete. We had some good performances; Makenna Hammes making the finals in the Long Jump in her first varsity meet was good to see. Autum Barthelman also had an outstanding night winning and setting meet records in the 60 and 60 Hurdles.”

            Brooke Waechter took 15th place with a time of 32.04; Waechter also had a good day at shot put, finishing tenth with a best throw of 28’4.25’’ (feet and inches). Ryliegh Leonard took 21st in the 800M run, clocking in with a time of 3:12.12. Paige Thompson was terrific in the 1500M taking third place overall with a time of 6:02.37. Makenna Hammes, as coach mentioned, made it to the finals in long jump as she took eighth overall with a high jump of 13’11’’.
