Iowa State Patrol Veteran Honored with Leadership Award

Des Moines, IOWA – On Thursday May 22, 2014, the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute will honor six individuals with distinguished leadership awards.

Lieutenant Randy Kunert of the Iowa State Patrol will be given the Community Vision Award for “developing.” The Community Vision Award recognizes alumni from the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute who have adopted a heart of vision for one of four areas:

  • Developing: Facilitates learning opportunities for the development and preparation of leaders to serve their communities.

  • Connecting: Connects leaders across the Greater Des Moines community.

  • Inspiring: Inspires leaders to be good community stewards.

  • Challenging: Challenges leaders to take action in the community.

“Lt. Randy Kunert has possibly made one of the most long-standing impacts on our graduates by blending his Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute experience with his professional expertise,” his nominator said.

Lt. Kunert, along with other state troopers, works with students in the Leadership Institute on a Leadership Reaction Course and a day of rappelling down a 40 foot tower.

“Lt. Kunert encourages leaders to trust others, gather and respect input from all, and to appreciate the importance of team work and pushing themselves to try things that may be out of their comfort zone,” according to his nomination application. “Without Randy’s leadership and expertise, there is really no way this experience could continue for as long as it has.”

Lt. Kunert will be recognized at the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute’s luncheon at The Temple for Performing Arts. For more information you can visit www.gdmli.com/leadershipawards.
