KCHC to take over Jack’s Corner Drug

Keokuk County Health Center (KCHC) has announced that they have come to agreement with Jack Vallandingham to lease Jack’s Corner Drug effective on April 1.

“I feel it’s a good opportunity to expand on our services to the local and surrounding communities to keep residents from having to potentially travel somewhere else for their prescriptions,” KCHC CEO Matt Ives said. “For the hospital, we can explore other types of services in the future, but right now it’s just about putting one foot in front of the other.”

The agreement comes as Vallandingham has decided to retire after 20 years of running his business in Sigourney in a couple of locations.

“I turn 80 in November and I think it’s time,” Vallandingham said. “The hospital came to me to buy it, so I thought why turn this down? They are a local entity that’s going to be here for the community and will keep the pharmacy open.”

Jack’s Corner Drug is currently leased out of Brothers Market and will continue to be leased once the transition is effective. According to KCHC, the name will not be changed in the near future for the purpose of continuity. The pharmacy will fall under the Nursing Department at the hospital, with oversight by Jill Sande.
