Keota Coasts In SICL Opener
Other than last Thursday night’s Parent Night festivities, it was a rather drama-less evening for the Keota volleyball team in its first conference match of the fall.
The Eagles (7-3, 1-0) had no trouble disposing of Lynnville-Sully (1-2, 0-2), sweeping the Hawks in three sets to start their SICL slate with a win.
Keota initially started the first set slowly, falling behind 5-1. However, the Eagles quickly recovered and stormed ahead to a convincing lead, before taking the first set by a count of 25-21.
It was more of the same in set number two. Keota quickly took command of the set and eventually gained a 24-16 advantage. Lynnville-Sully and hitters Lysandra James and Shelby Davis kept battling, though, and cut three straight points off of Keota’s lead, bringing L-S’s deficit to just 24-19, but a defensive miscue by the Hawks ended the comeback and gave the Eagles the 25-19 win. James finished with a team-high 12 kills, while Davis tallied six.
