Lady Panthers take one of two against Arrows

The past few meetings, the Arrows have the Lady Panthers’ number, including a couple hard-fought battles last season. This year, Pekin was able to get over the hump by splitting a doubleheader against Wapello on June 11. An offensive display, combined with some stout defense, led to a 12-2 rout in game one but the Arrows would counter with an 8-4 win of their own.

Pekin got out quickly with a pair of runs in the first, while their defense kept Wapello off the board the first couple innings. Adding onto their lead, the Panthers used a four-run third inning with Remi Duwa launching a two-run shot over the fence. Emi Zook nearly replicated one of her own, slicing one foul over the fence before flying out.

Wapello would cut the deficit down by a couple of runs but were unable to do any more damage at the plate, a big part due to Pekin’s defense. The Lady Panthers added on another pair of runs in the sixth and used another four-run burst in the seventh to seal the win. Duwa added onto her big night with a bases-clearing double, later scoring in the inning. She ended the first game with four RBI and scored twice to lead her team.

Pekin took advantage of some errors as well, causing eight in total from the Arrows. Kylie Davis earned the win for the Lady Panthers, pitching all seven innings, struck out six, walked two and kept Wapello at two hits.
