Lady Savages go down fighting in Regional championship

ALBIA-Sigourney’s girls basketball squad was at Albia Monday, Feb. 20 to take on the Cardinals of Central Decatur for the 2A Regional 8 championship. The Lady Savages knew their opponent was tough, but that didn’t faze them headed into this contest.

Early on it looked however, that C. Decatur might run away with the game, as they jumped out to a 15-2 lead over Sigourney. The Lady Savages answered back and closed out the quarter down 16-7 after a 5-1 run. Sigourney kept their good play going in the second quarter, as they actually outscored C. Decatur 11-9, making it a tight contest at 25-18 in C. Decatur’s favor at the half.

The third quarter however was the Lady Savages undoing, as C. Decatur came out fast and furious en route to a 49-27 lead heading into the fourth. Sigourney however never gave up in this game, and a couple times in the fourth were able to pull within 15 points of C. Decatur, before the Cardinals were eventually able to put the Lady Savages away with the final being 64-42.
