The Lady Savages suffer first loss of the season in matchup of SICL title contenders

SIGOURNEY- The gym was rocking on Tuesday Jan. 10 when undefeated Sigourney hosted one-loss Lynnville-Sully, and the fans on hand got their moneys worth in this one. Unfortunately, the hometown team fell just short in this game against two of the better teams in 1A Iowa basketball.

It was a tick for tack contest throughout, and whenever Sigourney hit a big shot, or went on a short run, Lynnville-Sully was right there with an answer. L-S held a one-point lead after a quarter of play, 13-12, but Sigourney held the slight edge at the half, 26-24. Things were all tied up at 34 after the third quarter of play and everyone was getting set for a tightly contested fourth. L-S went on an 8-0 run to start the fourth. In fact, Sigourney didn’t scored until the 4:45 mark in the quarter, but when they scored it came in bunches, as they went on a 7-0 run, making it a 42-41 game with about 3:30 to play. In the final minutes Sigourney made several runs at tying or taking the lead, but ultimately, a few missed field goals and free throws, and a L-S squad that shot nearly lights out from the line, ensured the first loss of the season for the Lady Savages, 51-45.
