Mason Moore, Peyton Schauf lead Savages at Warhawk Invitational

The Sigourney boys track team was back in competition on April 5 to end an extended break due to a cancelled meet earlier in the week. Two boys stood out for Sigourney as Mason Moore and Payton Schauf were catalysts at the Warhawk Invitational over in North Mahaska.

Sigourney had several middle of the pack finishes in events throughout the day, but Moore provided his team with their only win. He led a majority of the 1600-meter run and was able to hold off the competition from Pella Christian and Montezuma. Not only was he able to cross the finish line by a full second before his competition, Moore was also the youngest athlete to finish in the top five.

Off the track the Savages had another big performance from another young leader. Schauf put together a second-place finish in the discus event with 115’-2.00”.  Spencer Magill added a second-place finish in the high jump, getting over the 5’-6.00” mark, which followed up his first-place finish a week prior.

Back on the track, the Savages were able to continue finding their stride in the mid-distance running and relay events. In the 4x800-meter relay Sigourney wound up finishing runner-up with a time of 9:16.24, while Paul Montgomery and Trace Bell both finished top-10 in the open-800m. Montgomery finished fourth with a time of 2:19.95, while Bell took seventh and finished at the 2:42.44 mark.
