Matt Wolf Retires from Military after 25 years of Service

On January 27, 1989 Matt began his military service by enlisting into the US Army in West Des Moines. On Sept. 6, 1989 he left for Ft. Knox, Kentucky to begin his four-year tour as a Cavalry Scout. After 16 weeks of fun filled Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training, he was stationed in Ft. Knox in Company D, 105h US Cav, 194th Armored Brigade. After six months Matt had to transfer as his unit deactivated. He was transferred to Echo Company 1st of the 12th Cavalry where he was an Opposing Force (OPFOR) tank driver. This unit trained against 2nd Lieutenants who were completing their Officer Basic Course as an M1 Abrams tanker. Matt’s last year on Active Duty was an overseas duty to Korea. While in Korea he served in Alpha Company, 5/17th US Air Mobile Cavalry as a M2A3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle driver and then a gunner. As his tour of duty was ending, Matt had to decide whether to get out of the Army or stay in and joint he National Guard. He enlisted into the Iowa Army National Guard while in Korea.
