Opera House to host 2nd Annual Variety Community Show

           Mark your calendars for Saturday, Oct. 1, when the What Cheer Opera House hosts dancers, singers, musicians and more for their 2^nd Annual Variety Community Show.

            Joyce Haase, a member of the Opera House Board, organized the first show last year, which saw several acts take the historical stage for two sets each. Hoping to attract more acts and spectators this year, Haase moved the show from August to September.

            “So many people were out on vacation around August 7, so it wasn’t probably the best time to do it,” Haase said. “With it moved to October, we hope to get more young people involved, as well as the community. It’s also the same day as the flea market, so our hopes are the crowds from there will spill into the opera house to watch our talent.”

            Haase encourages individuals and groups of all ages involved in music, dance, comedy, band, magic, drama and cheer to sign up for the variety show by Friday, Sept. 23, which will be the cut off date. Participants do not have to be from Keokuk County, just as long as the act is family friendly and performers have two songs/presentations ready for the October show.

            “I would love to see more variety in our acts this year, especially comedy and magic,” Haase said. “The more people that get involved in performing, the more who will come and watch. It’s really a great experience to perform on that opera house stage.”
