Panther Classic at Central College gets Pekin track off on the right foot

PELLA- The Panthers hosted the first of two early season track meet’s held at Central College’s indoor facility on Friday, March 10. Both the Panther boys and girls varsity squads were in action at Pella, as Pekin has high expectations as always for their track program.

            Starting with the girls squad, Katie Jones had a good showing at shot put, as she threw 33’6’’ which was good enough for second place on the day. Ellie Ledger had a 4’4’’ high jump to take fifth place. In the hurdles, Zoey Wright brought home fourth with a time of 10:23.

            The Panthers put together a terrific run in the 4x800, as they finished in first with a time of 10:53.03. Their 4x200 squad also took first, with a run of 1:54.94. In the sprint medley, the Panthers also finished on top with a time of 2:01.55. The Panthers made it a medley sweep, as they also took the top spot in the distance medley, clocking in at 14:26 even. In the California mile, or the 8x200, the Panthers finished in fifth place with a time of 4:16.61. In the 4x400, Pekin took fourth with a time of 4:42.13.

            On the boys end of the meet, Devin Fraise took gold in long jump with a 18’10’’ jump. Trevor Northup took third in shot put with a throw of 42’1’’. Zach Conger had a high jump of 6’2’’, which earned him a second place finish in that event.
