Panthers Battle, but Fall Short at West Branch

For the second year in a row, the Pekin varsity volleyball team was handed a vicious second-round regional matchup with top-ten ranked West Branch.

The Bears came into the matchup against Pekin with a 31-5 record and came out of it with their 32nd win of the year.

The Panthers came out poised and determined, gaining a substantial early lead on No. 8 West Branch, but couldn’t match the Bears’ size and athleticism for much longer, as the Bears advanced in three straight sets: 25-17, 25-10, 25-19.

“We served with confidence and aggression to start the night, which put West Branch back on their heels,” Pekin head coach Ken Hutchinson said. “They had to send multiple free balls in the first set, which we were able to turn into easy offense.”
