Pekin 2017 Homecoming Court announced

Pekin High School has announced their Homecoming Court a week before the festivities get underway September 18-22. Coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 6:30 in the Pekin gym with activities to follow. All events for Homecoming week are listed under the homecoming court profiles in this article.

Starting with the ladies...

Loraine Dodson is the granddaughter of Bruce and Betty Sines. Loraine is involved in speech. drama, FCCLA, FFA and Legacy Youth Alliance as the committee chairperson. Outside of activities at Pekin, she is active with church mission, a counselor at Camp Reece, and spends her free time baking, reading and playing with her dogs. Her future plans are to attend college for nursing and specialize in geriactric care. 

Maci Gambell is the daughter of Doug and Christy Gambell. Maci is involved in yearbook, National Honor Society, volleyball, basketball, track, FCCLA, FFA, spanish club and Rising Ruritans. Outside of activities at Pekin, she is active with the Patriotic Panthers 4-H Club, coaching volleyball, and spends her free time hanging out with her friends and family and showing cattle/sheep. Her future plans are to attend either Central College or the University of Iowa and major in Physical Therapy. 

Megan Rohr is the daughter of Kevin and Jody Rohr. Megan is involved in cross country, basketball, track and mentoring in the art room. Outside of actvities at Pekin, she is active with her Wednesday youth group, church on Sundays, has been on mission trips to West Virginia to help build houses for families, and spends her free time hiking, painting, working on her photography and kyaking. Her future plans are to major in Art Education, hopefully at Central College.

Deanna Winn is the daughter of Alicia Eckley and Joe Winn. Deanna is involved in yearbook, photography, volleyball, dance, track and works to maintain good grades. Outside of activities at Pekin, she is active with Grace Family Churhc and Friends church, works in the concession stand during basketball games, and spends her free time hanging out with friends and family as she practices her makeup and hair skills on her brother. Her future plans are to attend Kirkwood Community College to get her Associate of Arts degree and then transfer to the University of Iowa to get her degree in Teaching.

Paige Winn is the daughter for Chris and Lynn Winn. Paige is involved in National Honor Society, FCCLA, spanish club, volleyball and basketball. Outside of activities at Pekin, she is active with Grace Family Church, and spends her free time watching baseball, sleeping and shopping. Her future plans are undecided.

And for the gentleman...

Keaton Baayen is the son of Tami and Brian Baayen. Keaton is involved in football, wrestling, track, baseball, Rising Ruritans and is Class of 2018 President. Outside of activities at Pekin, he is active with Grace Family Church, coaching flag football on Saturdays, and spends his free time hanging out with freinds, eating out a lot, lifting, going to movies and putting in that WORK!!! His future plans are to attend the University of Iowa to get a doctorate to become a Pediatrician, but is leaving his options open for another school in order to play a sport. 

Kaden Baker is the son of Heidi and Brian. Kadan is involved in football, wrestling, track, student council as its current President, Rising Ruritans, FCA is a two year academic letterwinner and in band for two years. Outside of activities at Pekin, he is active in the community with serving 50+ hours, attended the Chirst in Others Retreat, and spends his free time lifting, playing with his dog Brooke and watching the Cubs win. His future plans are to study athletic training while continuing to play football or to go into the nursing field. 

Chandler Eckley is the son of Dar and Shelley Eckley. Chandler is involved in football, basketball, track and FFA and is taking several college classes this semester. Outside of activities at Pekin, he is active with Grace Family Church, after prom fundraising, and spends his free time lifting, working in the shop, traveling, breaking state meet records and "being awesome." His future plans are to conitnue his education in business and construction. 

Chase Eckley is the son of Dar and Shelley Eckley. Chase is involved in football, basketball and track while also taking college classes online through the school. Outside of activities at Pekin, he is active with helping out at youth football and basketball programs, and spends his free time playing 2K, lifting and “icing his knee.” His future plans are to attend a two-year college and go into the technology field. 

Monico Requena is the son of Monico and Meagan Requena. Monica is involved in football, track and basketball. Outside of activities at Pekin, he is active with his youth group, Sunday school as an assistant, bible camp, preaching part time, helping out at football and basketball youth camps, helping clean Hedrick's park/fields, and spends his free time cooking, woodworking, spending time with family, especially with his grandfather who has dementia. His future plans are to either study Physical Therapy while continuing to play football or go to bible college to become a youth pastor. 

 

Pekin Homecoming Week Dress Up Days: Monday-Neon Day, Tuesday-Tie Dye Day, Wednesday-Wacky Disco, Thursday-Nifty Fifty or Homecoming shirts, Friday-Spirit Day. Coronation is Wednesday, Sept 20 at 6:30 in the gym, with a bonfire and food to follow from 7-9 p.m. Parade will held on Friday, Sept 22 at 2 p.m. in the school parking lot, followed by a pep assembly in the gym beginning at 2:30 p.m. The football game against Cardinal will kick off at 7 p.m. with the dance following immediately afterwards.
