Pekin splits DH against Wapello

Packwood – Pekin was hoping to end a three-game loss streak and move back over .500 for the season when they played Wapello for a doubleheader on June 11. A disappointing first game left more to be desired, and the Panthers delivered in a big way with a 15-4 win, pushing their record to 6-6 on the year.

Pekin let a couple runs score in the early stages of their first game, falling behind 3-0 before they could put together a rally. Tanner Bainbridge got things started for the offense in the third, followed by Quinn Ledger being walked. Kennan Winn brought in Bainbridge and Ledger also scored via error, cutting the deficit to one run.

On the mound, Brady Latcham was dealing after giving up some early runs. He would end up pitching all seven innings, holding the Indians to six hits, walked two and struck out five. Wapello tacked on one more insurance run in the top of the sixth, plating the final run of the game in a 4-2 loss for the Panthers.

While their defense wasn’t perfect, the Panthers had their chances to retaliate but hit a lot of fly balls at the end of several innings.
