Plants, Poles and Papa’s Grill at H & M

Sigourney – Chances are folks have had a reason to visit H & M Farm and Home in Sigourney during this season change. Often the first spring and summer projects of the year bring with them reminders of supplies we needed, or equipment our tool sheds were lacking. Centrally located in Sigourney, H & M is just a quick jaunt for most Keokuk County Residents and this convenience can pay off in the midst of a project.

According to store owner Keith Luettjohann, convenience and product variety are two of the most significant missions for H & M.

“Our goal is to continue to grow more and more. The best product ideas we get, come from our customers,” Luettjohann said.

With the ability to custom order virtually any product, even if it’s not seen on the floor, Luettjohann reminded folks not to hesitate to ask about custom ordering.

This custom need was the drive behind the newest addition at H & M. With this new machine, hydraulic hoses of any size can be made right in the store, saving time  for those in-field breakdowns, and saving the costs of shipping for everyone.

Luettjohann grew up in a military family, so he moved around as a child before settling in Minnesota where he graduated from High School.  He and his wife Laurie have been business owners in Sigourney since 2003. Then they were the owners of the grocery store. They built a new K & L Foods. in 2010 before selling the store to Brother’s Market and purchasing H & M. in 2014.

Some of the employees at H & M were already there before the Luettjohann purchased the store. Keith said he relies on the expertise and experience of Sam Moore and Pat Hammes who remained on the payroll after the store changed hands. Travis and Troy, sons of Keith and Laurie also work at H & M keeping things running smoothly. Perhaps the employee with the most regard is Abby, Keith’s 12-year-old yellow lab who goes pretty much where he goes.
