Rapper with Sigourney Ties Competes for Scholarship - Needs Your Vote!

A rapper with Sigourney connections…

River Scott is a one of the three semi-finalists in Music/Arts Category of the JC Penny's National Afterschool Awards Scholarship Contest. His local connection is being the great-grandson of Cleo Sellers and grandson of Pamela and Gary Hildebrand, former Sigourney residents.

Scott also known as MC Rio, he is a 12 year-old rapper from San Marcos who creates songs with a positive message for kids and teens. As part of the Music Makers program of his Boys and Girls Club, MC Rio has become a local "rock star" with his song "Number 2 Pencil". He has performed in front of more than 1000 students at different elementary schools. "Number 2 Pencil" is a song with a positive message about taking tests. Scott could receive a $5000 college scholarship if he has enough votes. Please go to www.afterschoolawards.com and vote. Voting is open through Sunday, Aug. 10 and the winner is announced on August 15.
