Savages Complete Busy Week

Jared Jensen’s Sigourney boys’ track and field team competed in three meets last week, while Andy Harter’s girls’ squad competed in two – making last week a busy one for the Savages.

The Sigourney boys’ week got underway on Monday at Belle Plaine against the likes of Iowa City Regina, HLV and Twin Cedars. The Savages came in fifth place out of nine teams with 51 points.

The Savages earned four second-place finishes at Belle Plaine, including two from senior Kevin Weber. Weber placed second in the long jump with a mark of 19’ 4.5’’, his longest of the season, and second in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.76 seconds. Sigourney’s Blaine Gretter also earned a silver medal at Belle Plaine, with his 5’8’’ mark in the high jump. Sigourney’s fourth second-place finish came via Peyton Crawford in the 100-meter dash; Crawford clocked in at 12.43 seconds. Also having a good day for the Savages was Tyler Crawford, who placed fourth in the 3200 (11:10) and fifth in the 1600 (5:14).
