Savages win their Sectionals by vast margin Saturday to continue 1A dominance this season

SIGOURNEY-Another day of anguish was what was in store for the seven other schools that found themselves in the 1A Sectional 9 pool with Sigourney-Keota on Saturday, Feb. 4, as the Savages finished 83.5 team points ahead of the 2nd place team, Pleasantville.

The Savages had eight wrestlers in championship matches for their respective weights, and five of them taking the gold with victories in those bouts. There were some very entertaining matches all day long, but every time the team scores were read aloud SK was ahead and ahead big. That remained a theme for the day as the Savages closed out with the victory winning 1A Sectional 9. They have eight individuals moving on and as a team they host Regional Districts this Tuesday for a chance to go to State as a team in dual action.

Sigourney was host as a school to the Sectional 9 for 1A and it was a packed gym for the activities. Mason Dye (39-10) at 106 lbs. took first place, defeating Wil Martin (25-15) or Moravia in the championship match. Cale Jarmes (22-17) took third place at 113 lbs. Then, Luke House (20-15) brought home the gold defeating Zac Knapp (7-11) of Moravia 10-5 by decision.
