Sigourney and Keota Fire Departments Join to Battle House Fire

Sigourney Fire was requested on Friday, Dec. 19 to 420 S. Stuart St. for a house fire at the Pfannebecker residence. According to Sigourney’s Fire Chief Bill Halleran, Sigourney Fire was enroute at 3:44 p.m. They arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the east side of house on the first floor. Mutual Aid for manpower was requested from the Keota Fire Department. It was determined that everyone was out of the house and accounted for.

Sigourney Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack, and the main body of the fire was knocked down and the search for any fire extension began. The house was ventilated with positive pressure fans so visibility would be enhanced for the Firefighters.

The house suffered extensive fire damage on the east side with smoke and heat damage throughout the structure. The 2nd floor was relatively untouched due to the door being closed at the bottom of the stairway. The fire was not deemed suspicious in nature and is being further investigated for cause and origin.
