Sigourney Baseball Nabs First Win

6-9 Sigourney 3, Tri-County 5

6-11 Sigourney 16, Montezuma 5

6-13 Sigourney 6, North Mahaska 8

The Sigourney baseball team earned its first win of the season last Wednesday in dominant fashion against Montezuma. Prior to that, however, the Savages played at Tri-County and nearly came up with win number one against the Trojans instead.

The Savages fell behind 5-0 in Thornburg last Monday but didn’t give up until the final out was recorded.

TC’s Jake Brumbaugh tossed the first six innings against the Savages but got into trouble in the top of the seventh. Shane Swearingen and Jake VanEe each reached base in the seventh and eventually came around to score. Sophomore Peyton Crawford knocked in Swearingen, before junior Colby Kerkove drove in VanEe. Adam Gragg then came up with a big hit to drive in Crawford, making the score 5-3, but the rally ended there.
