Sigourney boys and girls sweep home meet Tuesday

SIGOURNEY- It was a terrific 75 degree partly cloudy day on Tuesday, April 18 for a golf meet. The Savage golfers made mince-meat of both the boys and girls Montezuma and Lynnville-Sully golfers.

The Lady Savages topped L-S by six-strokes, with a 223 to 229 victory. Monte shot a 247 to fall by 24 shots. Sigourney was led by Sydney Streigel’s 50, which made her the event’s medalist on the day after winning the card-back with a bogey on one. Kendall Streigle shot a 52, while Samantha Bird continues to surge shooting a 58. Lindsey Wheeldon put together a solid 63 to round out the top four for Sigourney. Madison Schwenke and Savahannah White nearly made the top-four with a 65 and 70 respectively.

Kaden Benson brought his A-game, as his 38 was the best on the day of any golfer. His +3 score his best thus far of the season and really if you asked Benson, it should have been lower as he missed a putt on the par 3 ninth-hole to take a bogey heading in. Regardless, his stellar play helped propel the Savages to an easy victory, as their 182 was nearly 30-strokes better than the runner-up Monte golf team with their score of 209. L-S shot a 238. Nick Goad had an excellent day on his schools home course, as his 44 gave him the runner-up medal on the day. Goad’s game continues to evolve as he keeps finding that soft touch around the green. Dustin Haines shot a not-to-shabby 45, as his first four holes saw him at +7. However, he calmed the storm and righted the ship to cruise to a cool +3 on the back five holes. Brett Streigel shot a 55 to score the fourth-best round for the Savages. Cole Weber had a 57 on the day and Ian Terfehn a 63.
