Sigourney school board approves final specs for all-weather track, science room projects

During their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 11, the Sigourney Board of Directors met with Dan Hunt of Connect Architect to review and ultimately approve the final specifications for the new all-weather track, ticket booth and science room projects.

The Board first announced intentions to remodel the science room and replace the current track back in April of last year, and hired Connect Architect of Clive to help plan the project. With the approval of the final specs, the next step for the district is to host a pre-bid conference on January 17 for all architects interested in the projects. The ticket booth area and science room will be combined into one bid and the all-weather track will be done as a separate bid.

Bids for the projects will be due by Tuesday, Feb. 7. The Board will then take time to review the sealed bids and accept or reject the options during their February 15 board meeting. Weather permitting, the hope is to have at least the all-weather project begun as soon as possible in order to have it finished for the 2017-2018 football season. Members of the board also wish to have the ticket booth and science room ready for the next school year.

Currently, the school’s fundraiser for the all-weather track has collected $89,677.28 out of their $125,000 goal.
