Sinclair Tractor hosts Nuffield Scholars

Sigourney’s own Sinclair Tractor graciously welcomed 10 Nuffield Scholars from countries such as England, The Netherlands and Brazil as part of their tour of the state of Iowa on Tuesday, June 20.

Owner Bob Sinclair, along with his family, friends and customers met with the scholars for food and conversation at the store, where they all heard from Iowa Rep. Jarad Klein and volunteer guide Ed Kee, who Sinclair had met years ago.

“I was asked to go on a trade mission to Brazil with our Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey and the Secretary of Agriculture from Delaware, Ed Kee, five years ago,” Sinclair said. “We went down there and got to meet people from both Iowa and Delaware I didn’t know, and we toured 1,700 miles from the Amazons to the capital. Kee and I developed a good relationship. When he retired, he joined the Nuffield Scholars to be their United States representative and he wanted to bring this group to a John Deere dealership.”

The Nuffield Scholarship, which originated in England in 1947, helps farmers ages 25 to 45 travel the world to learn more about agriculture and take back what they learned to their own farms and communities. Those selected for this trip had already toured Singapore, India, Qatar, Denmark and England before setting foot in Washington two weeks ago and eventually traveling to Iowa. Secretary Northey and Kee took the scholars on a tour of Iowa State University, the World Food Prize in Des Moines and the Pioneer facility in Johnston.
