SK wins SICL conference tournament, EV places third

NEW SHARON-Sigourney-Keota repeated as the SICL conference tourney champions on Saturday, Jan. 28 at North Mahaska High School in New Sharon. The Savages had a great showing as they gear up for Sectionals and Districts before State. SK nearly topped the 200-point mark as a team, with four wrestler’s taking home first place, and eight finishing in the top three of their respective weight class.

            Mason Dye (37-10) placed first with quick work of all three of his opponents on the day to get the gold at 106 lbs. The Savage’s Kaleb Reeves (37-5) also brought home first at 195 lbs. with two quick pins over good wrestlers. Noah Boender (42-2) continued his dominance with a 3-0 mark on the day with his longest match lasting 1:43 in the 220 lb. championship bout. Boender pinned Colton Lourens (32-5) of Colfax-Mingo in that match. Cooper Greiner (39-9) was the fourth Savage to take first place on the day as he defeated Daniel Tapken (13-13) on EV in the championship match at 285 lbs.
