Special Election for School Board

The Sigourney Community School District will host a special election in April. This election is asking the community to vote for the school district to go from all district board members to all at large board members. Currently to be a board member you have to live in the district that has an open position. Only residents in that district can vote for that candidate.

Superintendent Dave Harper said, “This makes it hard to get board members because of this strict criteria.” He is asking the community to allow them to go all at large with board members. This means there would be no more districts, which would allow anyone to run for a position on the board and allow anyone to vote for any of those school board members. Harpers goal by doing this is to encouraging more community members to run for school board. There are two appointed school board members up for election in April.
