On Star Helps Track Down Stolen Vehicle

 

On Star was a key clue in helping track down a stolen car out of Wapello county on Monday June 6.  When a resident reported their vehicle being stolen between the night and early morning hours, an investigation was started that involved several agencies. 

One Star was able to track the vehicle as it drove through Keokuk County where Officer Jeff Runnells assisted tracking the car as far northwest as Wellman and eventually locating the vehicle in northern Keokuk county on Hwy 149 between South English and North English. Officer Jeff Runnells said that with the help of OnStar locating stolen vehicles has become a lot easier.

Charged in connection to this incident is 25 year old Logan Chapin from Hedrick, IA. Chapin is being charged with Burglary 2nd, a class “C” felony, Theft 1st, also a class “C” felony along with arson 2nd a class “C” felony for a vehicle located up the road from the victims location that had been partially burned.  He is being held on a $30,000 bond in the Wapello County jail.  Assisting with the investigation was Iowa State Patrol, Washington County Sheriff Office, Iowa County Sheriff office and Keokuk County Sheriff Office.
