State Experience A Great Experience for Pekin

Sometimes, in the chaos of the moment, it’s hard to see things for what they are. Things aren’t typically as good, or as bad, as they seem. Sometimes, all it takes a change in perspective to truly appreciate what you have.

The girls on the Pekin cross-country team were not happy (at all) following the announcement that they finished second behind Pocahontas Area on Saturday at the State Meet in Fort Dodge. After some time to cool off and process their second-place finish, though, the Panthers were able to realize and appreciate just how fabulous their stretch of success has been.

“The girls were a little disappointed,” said head coach Davis Eidahl. “Their expectations were a State Championship. Most girls would be overjoyed with a runner-up finish. After the meet was over and the team was out to eat, it finally set in what they have accomplished. In eight years, we’ve had four State Championships and three runner-ups. The girls had an outstanding season and I’m really proud of what every girl did. I know the girls are going to be ready for next fall.”
