Supervisors canvass vote

The Keokuk County Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The meeting was hel d on Tuesday due to the courthouse being closed for Veterans Day on Nov. 11. Perhaps the most important issue for the Supervisors approval was that of the first tier canvass of votes in this year’s city/school election. Because City and School elections were combined, two canvass of votes are required. This is largely due to the fact that many of the school districts in Keokuk County cross county lines, requiring each county that the school district has voters in to print ballots for that school district.

For Tri-County Schools, this meant Keokuk, Mahaska, and Iowa Counties all had to print ballots. English Valleys School would have had ballots for Keokuk and Iowa County, while Keota and Pekin Schools would have followed the same trend. As a result of this, all school results will be formalized on Nov. 18, allowing each county more time to coordinate with other counties to ensure that the results are correct and accurate, particularly in races that were contested. In the City canvass, no major changes were noted to the results, and no ties or recount requests were recorded, meaning that the results are considered to be final.
