Tri-County boys come up short against Colfax-Mingo

The Tri-County boys' basketball team was searching for its first win of 2018 when they hosted Colfax-Mingo on January 12. The Trojans saw a lot of good things happen, but it wasn't enough as they fell 47-67.

The game started out with a relatively low scoring quarter, something that benefited the Trojans. Colfax-Mingo was able to convert on a couple early threes, but couldn't get much else going from their offense. Tri-County was able to find some success when they moved the ball down into the post, at times having a size advantage. Tri-County found itself down 7-11 after the first quarter concluded.

Cameron Krumm was the main source of scoring for the Trojans, as they tried to use his athleticism early and often throughout the game. He could score from posting up his defender, or take the ball from the key and drive in for a shot. Colfax-Mingo was able to find their offense as well, which led to a 35-16 lead at half for the visitors.

"I think that we moved the ball better than we had the previous couple games," Trojans coach Curtis Fisher said. "They pushed us off of the block down low a bit, and we struggled with that some. They have a couple big guys that guarded us well and played physical."

The second half showed plenty of scoring from both sides, just not enough in the end from the Trojans. Early on in the third quarter, the defense from Tri-County was able to slow down the Tigerhawk offense, leading to some fast-break opportunities. The deficit began to narrow as Tri-County also began to get sent to the free throw line. The Trojans outscored Colfax-Mingo 16-15 in the third quarter, but were then beat 18-16 in the final quarter of play.

"More guys were starting to get involved with our transition game and ball movement," Fisher said. "We just need to continue to build off the things we've been doing well going forward."

Cameron Krumm led the Trojans with 24 points, while shooting 10 of 18 from the field. Krumm also had 13 rebounds, three steals, three blocks and one assist. Dylan Seaton had seven points, as he found some success in the post position as well. Brayden Monroe had six points, five rebounds and one steal. Aydan Bos had a team-high six assists, to go along with three points, two rebounds and one steal.

The Trojans had another tough test on their hands when they traveled to play Belle Plaine on January 16.
