Tri-County School District Finances Discussion

According to Tri-County’s interim superintendent, Dr. Alan Meyer, a community meeting was held last Thursday (February 27) to begin an open discussion surrounding the school district’s financial health and the outlook for the future.

The informational meeting was well attended by the school  board, administration, teachers, staff and community members.

Dr. Meyer and business manager, Dennis Gourley shared a general overview of the District’s current and future financial health based upon trends facing rural school districts across Iowa, mainly declining enrollment.

The up-side is Meyer and the Tri-County School Board are being proactive and recognizing these trends before they are out of control as well as opening the discussion up to the entire community.

Meyer has scheduled a second community meeting for Tuesday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Tri-County cafeteria and plans to share a more detailed account of the District’s finances.

Meyer confirmed the general feeling from the community members attending the February 27 meeting was to “do what needs to be done” and fight to save the school.
