Wartburg Wind Ensemble to perform in Sigourney
The Wartburg College Wind Ensemble will perform in Sigourney Saturday, April 26, as part of its 2014 domestic tour.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Sigourney High School. The Sigourney High School Band, conducted by Wartburg College alumna Jessica Meier, also will perform. A donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students is suggested.
The Wind Ensemble will present a program including “Burst” by Sean O’Laughlin, “The Battle of Shiloh, March” by C.L. Barnhouse, as well as several other compositions. The program also includes several arrangements of traditional hymns, like Just a Closer Walk with Thee, Beautiful Savior, and Nearer My God to Thee.
Meier, a 2008 Wartburg graduate with a degree in music education, is the fifth- through twelfth-grade band director for Sigourney Community Schools.
“The students and community will have the awesome opportunity to hear a world-class ensemble. My students will also be able to see where their musical talents can take them after high school and that you don’t have to be a music major to continue in music,” she said.
The Wind Ensemble tours each spring and schedules an international tour every third year during Wartburg’s one-month May Term. Placement in the Wind Ensemble is determined by auditions in the fall.
