Washington Co. Riverboat grants awarded to Sigourney, Keota Schools

The Washington County Riverboat Foundation announced its spring grant recipients last week, including three grants awarded to two areas schools.

Sigourney Community Schools were granted $675 for an AED to go into Sigourney Elementary. The second grant was for $4,000 written by art instructor Rebecca Shaw to start a brand new Metalsmithing and Stained Glass program at the high school.

“I’ve been waiting to start this program since I started her nine years ago, but I didn’t know where the funding would come from” Shaw said. “I had a student this year come in and ask what new stuff we have in the classroom this year, and I realized I could make this happen.”
