What a Week for the Pekin Girls

Last week was a pretty special one for the Pekin girls’ track and field team.

The Panthers didn’t just perform exceptionally at Montezuma and Mid-Prairie; they were represented at the Drake Relays by three different athletes.

Gwynne Wright, Kaysha Dodson and Shelbie Williams – all juniors – competed at last week’s Drake Relays in Des Moines, and one, in particular, performed better than she ever has.

Gwynne Wright took to the blue oval, first, on Thursday in the 3,000 and, then, on Saturday in the 1,500, and set personal bests both times.

Wright entered Thursday’s 3,000-meter run with a middle-of-the-pack time; she finished as the seventh fastest. Wright clocked in at 10:15, which was 17 seconds quicker than her qualifying time.
