Doris Hanchett

1920-2021

SIGOURNEY-Doris E. Hanchett, age 101, of Sigourney, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021, at the English Valley Care Center in North English.

Doris was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Keswick, to Lewis Leroy “Roy” and Mabel (Sears) Caskey and graduated from Keswick High School.  On Dec. 24, 1938, she married Charles “Bob” Hanchett.  The couple lived in Detroit for a short time where Doris worked making Christmas wreaths.  They then moved back to the Sigourney area and farmed northwest of town for several years.  Doris also helped her daughter at Main Street Florist for nearly 12 years.  Doris was a member of the Scattergood Club and Rebekah Lodge.  She enjoyed crocheting and reading.

Survivors include four children Gary (Connie) Hanchett of Deep River, Linda (Gary) Schaefer of Sigourney, Ron (Teresa) Hanchett of Ames and John (Jill) Hanchett of Sigourney; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren and sister-in-law: Ruth Hanchett.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Bob in 2010; two grandchildren: John Logan Hanchett in 1988 and Angela Hanchett in 2014; three brothers: Orley, Russell and Norman Caskey and one sister: Velma Cranston.

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, with Pastor Joe Hohenshell officiating.  Burial was at North English Cemetery.  Visitation was from 1 p.m. until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
