English Valleys Track Teams Make Trek to Grinnell

GRINNELL—The English Valleys boys and girls track team made the trip to Grinnell College on March 20 for an indoor SICL meet.

Boys:

For the boys individual events, Deshon Anderson placed fourth in the long jump with a longest jump recorded at 17-09.00. Ben Coffman also placed 12th in this event with a longest jump of 15–09.50. In the 400 meter dash, Josh Osborn took home fourth place with a final time of 55.91. Reese Bender finished in 10th in the 200 meter dash with a final time of 25.44. Lastly for the individual events, Gage Hyne placed first in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:52.32.

For the team events, the boys took home first place in the 4x800 with a final time of 9:11.43. It was a runaway victory as the next closests team was over 35 seconds behind them. The English Valleys 4x200 team is made up of Myles Grove, Cecil Smallwood, Jonathyn Downing and Gage Hyne. The English Valleys boys also finished in second in the distance medley with a final time of 4:10.34. The distance medley team is made up of Reese Bender, Ethan Garrett, Cecil Smallwood and Jonathyn Downing. Lastly in the 4x200, the English Valleys boys placed third with a final time of 1:39.85. The 4x200 team is made up of Myles Grove, Keshaun Lundy, Josh Osborn and Deshon Anderson. 

English Valleys coach Becky Becker spoke on the meet with, "Super proud of the way all of the athletes competed.  We are ahead of where we were a year ago at this time. The newcomers to the team showed some really good things and our veteran athletes just keep getting stronger. Exciting start to the season."

Girls:

For the girls individual events, Kayli Mohror finished first in the long jump with a final jump recorded at 14-06.50. Mohor also placed first in the 60 meter dash with a final time of 8.26. Delaney Hall placed 8th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 9.03, and Libby Armstrong finished 12th with a time of 9.16. Kennedy Axmear placed third in the shot put event with a farthest throw recorded at 30-00.00. Taylor Mikesell finished in 12th with a throw recorded at 25-11.00. In the 60 meter hurdle, Phoenix Sorden-Spies placed 10th with a final time of 11.57. In the 400 meter dash, Kaylee Frazier finished in fourth with a final time of 1:15.74. 

For the team events, the 4x200 team finished in third place with a final time of 2:04.37. The English Valleys girls 4x200 team is made up of Delaney Hall, Libby Armstrong, Anna Gorsh and Kayli Mohror.
