Irene Morrison

1919-2021

Irene Edna Fairchild Morrison, age 102, passed away Oct. 4, 2021.  She was born Sept. 28, 1919, the daughter of Milton and Emma Fairchild.  She graduated from eighth grade at rural Johnson and Lightfoot Schools, northeast of Sigourney.  In 1937, Irene graduated as Salutatorian of Sigourney High School, Sigourney.

On June 9, 1937, Irene married Elmer L. Morrison at Lancaster, Mo.  They have three children: Dr. M. Edward Morrison of Waynesville, N.C., Sally Morrison Patton of San Diego, Calif. and Dan F. Morrison of Sigourney.  There are seven grandchildren Eric, Brian, and Andrew Morrison, Jody Patton Ebbitt, Christopher P. Patton, D. Jamie Morrison, Jeremy Morrison and 13 great grandchildren.  Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Audrey Fairchild, husband Elmer L. Morrison and daughter-in-law Linda Morrison.

Irene and Elmer worked together farming southwest of Sigourney.  Irene was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church.  She and Elmer joined the church on Easter Sunday 1939.  Irene was involved in UMW, taught Church School, Vacation Bible School, and supported many causes of the church.  She was a member of the Tri-T, volunteered at the Sigourney Elementary School and was active in AARP.  Gardening was one of Irene’s favorite activities.  She grew a variety of flowers and vegetables which she loved to share with family and friends.  

A private graveside service will he held Oct. 6, 2021 in Sigourney, Iowa.  

Memorial gifts may be given to University of Iowa Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Stead Family Children’s Hospital, 200 Hawkins Dr.  Iowa City, Iowa, 52242.
