Isabelle A.”Isy” Flander, 91

KEOTA- Isabelle A.”Isy” Flander, age 91, of Washington, formerly of Keota, died Friday, December 22, 2023, at Halcyon House in Washington.

Isy was born June 6, 1932, near Sigourney, to Liborius and Leona (Kiefer) Conrad.  She graduated from Sigourney High School and attended Ottumwa Heights College for two years.  On September 8, 1951, she married Jim Flander in Cedar Rapids.  The couple lived and farmed in the Keota area until moving to Washington in July of 2009.  Isy was a member of St. James Parish in Washington, Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, was past president of the Altar and Rosary Society, the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Catholic Daughters of America.  A very devoted Catholic, Isy enjoyed watching Iowa and Iowa State sports, especially women’s basketball, playing bridge, reading, genealogy, traveling, dancing and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons: Murray J. (Jane) Flander of Keota, Gary A. (Maureen) Flander of Denver, Colorado and Randy C. (Cindy) Flander of Keota; daughter: Melinda K. (Tim) Holden of Manly; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister: Bibiana (Daniel) Chadwick of Cedar Rapids and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Jim in 2012; daughter: Victoria Ann Flander; two sisters: Frances Greenley and Helen Gann; brother-in-law: Tom Flander and sister-in-law: JoEllen Cruse.

 

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Bernie Weir officiating.  The service will also be livestreamed on the Powell Funeral Home website.  Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Mary Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until  10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
