Marjorie Burden

1932-2022

Marjorie Ann Burden, 89, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, at Park Place Elder Living in Mount Pleasant.

Marjorie was born Oct. 6, 1932 in Keswick, Iowa, the daughter of Tunis and Edith (Jordan) DeBont. She graduated from North English High School in 1950. Marjorie was united in marriage to Kenneth Burden in 1951, the couple had four children together and later divorced. She worked as a telephone operator, admissions clerk at Henry County Health Center and 31 years as the Henry County Treasurer, where she retired in 2002. While working as the treasurer, Marjorie helped with the design of the new license plates in 1996. Additionally, she fought to administer driver’s licenses in the treasurer’s office and learned to drive an 18-wheeler.  She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church, where she was a member of many committees. Marjorie was a member of T.T.T., BPW, Barettes, Sans Souci, ISCTA, ISAC Legislative Committee. She was also a passionate member of the Henry County Republican Women and the Henry County Republican Party.

Marjorie is survived by her son Alan (Pamala) Burden of New London; two daughters Linda (Jon) LeWitter of Phoenix, Ariz., Christine (Erick) Michel of Wilmette, Ill.; son-in-law Matt Yotter of Phoenix, Ariz; nine grandchildren Adam, Vicki, Meggan, Teri, Angie, Amanda, Alex, Sadie, and Jack; eight greatgrandchildren Weston, Eva, Addison, Beckett, Kaley, Dallan, AJ, and Liam; two sisters, Verna Ridenour and Lois Axmear both of Keswick.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Nancy Yotter, two brothers, Kenneth and Milton DeBont.

Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, Pastor Steve English will officiate. Burial will follow in the Forest Home Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed at Powell Funeral Homes Facebook page and at our website www.powellfuneralhomes.com. Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church from 3-7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 14, 2022, where the family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for First Baptist Church.
