Michael William Bain, age 82, passed away on Feb. 4, 2021 in Salina, Kan. Mike was born in Sigourney on Jan. 10, 1939 to Margaret Jones Bain and Derrell Bain. His parents divorced and Margaret married Joe Davidson, who, along with his mother, provided a loving home to Mike and his brother, Terry. Mike grew up in Sigourney and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1957. An enthusiastic sports fan, he attended the 1959 University of Iowa Rose Bowl victory over Cal in 1959. Mike served in the US Army as a radio operator and was stationed in Germany for two and a half years in the early 1960s. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Award. When he returned from overseas he was a law enforcement officer in Keokuk County and later worked as a pressman at the Sigourney News-Review. In 1968 he married Georgia Bell in Sigourney. They later divorced. He found work in Salina initially in the printing trade and later at the Brown Mackie Business School. He also worked at the Schwan’s food plant, from which he retired. Mike married Virginia Welton in 1977 in Salina and was active in their church there.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, his mother, Margaret Davidson, stepfather, Joe Davidson, and his brother, Terry Bain. He is survived by a daughter and stepson; cousins, Sally Glandon of Sigourney, Ron Legg of Grand Junction, Colo., and Patrick Green of Beaverton, Ore.; Virginia’s three sons and their wives, Robert and Angela Holston, Salina, David and Christi Holston of Illinois, Richard and Cathy Holston of Kentucky and several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and two nephews.
